The South Carolina Gamecocks just won a huge recruiting battle. Four-star linebacker Davion Jones picked the Gamecocks over LSU and Georgia on Monday, giving Shane Beamer's program a major boost for the 2026 class.
Jones, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound defender from Loganville, Georgia, announced his commitment live on social media. He chose South Carolina after taking multiple visits to Columbia this spring and summer.
Jones plays at Grayson High School, a Georgia powerhouse that churns out SEC talent. He's ranked as the No. 20 linebacker nationally in the 2026 cycle by 247Sports.
He runs a 4.6-second 40-yard dash and hits like a truck. His film shows sideline-to-sideline speed and a knack for blowing up screens in the backfield.
Jones had offers from just about everyone. Alabama, Clemson, Florida, and Tennessee all wanted him. But he narrowed it to South Carolina, LSU, and Georgia before picking the Gamecocks.
This is a statement win for Beamer and his staff. Beating LSU and Georgia for a blue-chip linebacker from Georgia doesn't happen often for South Carolina.
Linebackers coach Mike Peterson led the charge. He built a strong relationship with Jones and his family over the past year. That personal connection made the difference.
Jones becomes the highest-rated defensive commit in South Carolina's 2026 class. He joins a group that already includes four-star defensive end Anthony Smith and three-star safety Marcus Brown.
The Gamecocks still have work to do. They want to add two more linebackers in this cycle. Jones gives them a cornerstone to build around.
