The South Carolina Gamecocks are facing a challenging situation as reserve running back Sam Williams-Dixon was arrested on multiple charges late Saturday night. Williams-Dixon, who transferred to South Carolina from Ohio State in January, is currently detained at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. His charges include breaking into an automobile where fuel is stored, larceny between $2,000 and $10,000, and criminal conspiracy. This incident raises questions about the depth of the Gamecocks' running back position heading into the 2026 season. Williams-Dixon had previously recorded 10 carries for 62 yards during his time at Ohio State, with limited appearances on the field. South Carolina also signed two other transfer running backs in January, Christian Clark from Texas and Jabree Coleman from Penn State, to bolster their roster. Additionally, the Gamecocks return three scholarship players at the running back position: Matt Fuller, Jawarn Howell, and Isaiah Augustave. The recent arrest of Williams-Dixon follows the earlier dismissal of defensive lineman Davonte Miles, who was arrested in February for possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Head coach Shane Beamer is now faced with the challenge of managing these off-field issues while preparing the team for the upcoming season.
